Coaching Lab for Leaders of Leaders
A full-day training lab, facilitated by Joan Lloyd
This full-day leadership lab combines Joan's own experience and expertise to give leaders hands-on experience with real-world issues. This lab can also be customized just for high potentials.
At this leadership level, coaching acumen is critical to the success of the leader and the success of his/her team. The direction and guidance provided by the leader, and behaviors encouraged, all have a profound impact on the results of the organization and the career fulfillment of everyone that works with the leader.
The purpose of this Coaching Lab is to give each participating leader a relevant, high-gain development experience that will enable them to hone the coaching skills that they apply to their direct reports and other organizational partners.
The agenda for the day will be driven by the specific cases brought in by each of the lab participants.
Content of the Lab
The Lab is filled with hands-on activities and practices related to the case studies each participant brings to the lab. The Lab will be interactive and applications-based. The day's focus will be on specific approaches to getting results through others. In particular, how each leader coaches his/her team on their issues and opportunites, as well as how to coach them to work effectively with their own direct reports.
To tailor the Lab to your organization's specific needs and interests, participants will be asked to gather some feedback from their own leader before the lab, which will help you focus on areas of strength and opportunity.
The primary focus of the Lab is not on how to counsel or take someone out of a leadership role. The main objective is teach participants how to maximize the performance of the leaders who report to them and the results they get through others.
Each participant will develop an action plan related to the personal case(s) they worked on during the Lab. They will be encouraged to share their action plan (if applicable) with their own leader and / or direct reports (if it’s applicable).
This development experience is intended to be practical and enable participants to apply what they learn in meaningful ways. Participants should come prepared for some honest conversation and active participation.
Prework before the Lab:
- Complete the prework and return it to the facilitator. Prework includes: Each participating leader will be asked to request feedback from their leader, in advance of the lab. This feedback will give them insight into areas to focus on during the lab. Participants will also be asked to prepare to identify one situation we could use in the Lab as a case study.
The Lab
During the Lab you will:
- Learn from each other as we share our individual challenges and successes and learn through doing (case studies).
- Apply tools and strategies to the case practices.
- Develop an action plan.
Following the Lab:
- Share your action plan with your leader, to collaborate and build on your plan. This will enable your leader to participate in your ongoing development in this area.
