Who is Joan Lloyd?
Since 1990, Joan Lloyd has grown her reputation as an executive coach, organizational and leadership strategist. Her syndicated newspaper column, Joan Lloyd at Work, has appeared weekly since 1982, reaching millions of readers. Her objective, down-to-earth advice puts her in the unique position of having credibility with both management and staff.
Joan’s background as an Officer of a 3-billion dollar organization, and more than 15 years of results as an outside consultant, give her a keen understanding of the needs of today’s high-pressured corporate environment and drive for results. She applies her own rich experience, as well as the best practices of some of the most outstanding organizations in the world.
Her list of loyal clients reads like a Who’s Who of Successful Businesses, including prestigious companies such as Northwestern Mutual, S.C. Johnson and Harley Davidson. Eighty percent of her new projects come from the referrals of satisfied clients. Her reputation as a respected consultant led to invitations to share the podium with notables such as President Bush Sr. and Captain James Lovell, of Apollo 13.
Prior to founding her firm, Joan Lloyd & Associates, Inc., Joan was the Officer charged with Leadership and Organizational Development at Northwestern Mutual, where she led internal consulting, training and communications for more than 3,000 employees. She also led Training and Organizational Development for Clark Oil and Refining Corporation and held a similar position at Miller Brewing Company.
She holds both a BS in Education and a M.S. in Counseling, having graduated Magna Cum Laude and Suma Cum Laude, respectively.
Joan enjoys helping her clients solve people problems and implement changes that create a more productive, healthy workplace. Our Philosophy / Mission (A note from Joan Lloyd):
When I was an officer at Northwestern Mutual, responsible for leadership development and communications between our home office and our field sales force, I hired consultants to help me achieve our goals. I learned a great deal from those who were great partners but I also found that there were consultants I didn’t like to work with: consultants who would grandstand or try to work around our department so they would look like heroes, or provide a thick report and then dump and run, and others who wanted to make our company their permanent “retirement annuity.”
When I ventured out on my own in 1990, I set out to create a different kind of consulting firm: one that would share best practices, one that would create self-sustaining, practical solutions by teaching the client “how to fish” on their own, one where the client is the star and HR is the partner, and finally a firm that is sensitive to each client’s unique culture.We are proud of our record of results. Our long-time clients treat us like trusted business partners. We think that’s evidence that we’re on the right track.
